Moonlight Drift and Reverie is a theatrical and musical production that brings together students and professional actors, classical musicians, a director, a composer, and lighting, set, and costume designers. The project combines both music composition and drama workshops with a fully realized theatrical production. The students work with Amy Martin, a
professional director, for a four-week drama workshop (4 classes total) that focuses on selections from Shakespeare. The students also meet for four composition workshops with Damon Ferrante, a composer and professor of music. Following the workshops, the students prepare a fully staged production of Moonlight Drift and Reverie, working alongside professional
actors and musicians.
Moonlight Drift and Reverie is a theatrical and musical exploration of the natural world. The story begins with a poet walking along the shoreline during twilight. After the poet sits down by a tree and falls asleep, the features and sounds of the beach form a dream landscape in her imagination. This landscape is full of adventure, humor, music, and romance. Pieces by Shakespeare, Whitman, and Strindberg move from one to the next in a manner that mimics both the ebb and flow of the tide and the flight of dreams.
